Vikings Notes: Akiem Hicks, Cam Akers, Eric Kendricks

In this story:
Let's go over a few different Vikings news items on this Week 3 Friday.
Akiem Hicks takes note of Vikings' fans interest
The Vikings were busy adding to their roster this week, signing guard Dalton Risner and trading for running back Cam Akers in an attempt to shore up some of their weaknesses. If there's one other area that fans would like to see addressed, it's the defensive tackle position. Harrison Phillips has been solid, but the Vikings struggled to stop the run against the Eagles and haven't gotten much out of Dean Lowry, Jonathan Bullard, and Khyiris Tonga.
Could Akiem Hicks be the answer? The 33-year-old, who tormented the Vikings during his Bears career, has clearly been hearing from plenty of Minnesota fans on social media. "That Viking love has been nice all day," Hicks tweeted on Thursday night.
That Viking love has been nice all day, I appreciate the interest. Always had fun strappin it on against you. As a competitor you hope to receive the respect of your opponent. The respect of the fan base is a very nice bonus #skol 😅😅😅 pic.twitter.com/dLp4rMJJO8

Hicks spent last season with the Buccaneers after a six-year run in Chicago. It's unclear if he plans to sign with a team at some point in 2023. Even at 33, it's hard not to think he might be able to help the Vikings in a limited role.
Cam Akers won't play against Chargers
Akers, acquired this week for a conditional late-round pick swap in 2026, figures to have a role in the Vikings' Alexander Mattison-led backfield before long. It just won't be this week against the Chargers.
"I know he’s really excited to be here and he’ll work towards potentially being a part of what we do next week, but it’s a little too soon to ask him to go this week," Kevin O'Connell said on Friday. "So more than likely, he will be down (inactive) for the game."
Akers appears to be happy with where he landed and this new opportunity.
As for Risner, O'Connell wouldn't say whether or not he might play this week. "I will say this much, he's progressed quickly," he said.
Eric Kendricks won't face his former team
Eric Kendricks signed with the Chargers this offseason after being released by the Vikings, who were his team for the first eight seasons of his NFL career. Unfortunately, Kendricks won't get a chance to compete against his old teammates on Sunday. He has been ruled out and will miss his second consecutive game with a hamstring injury.
