The Vikings just made a flurry of roster moves on Wednesday afternoon:

  • WR Justin Jefferson to injured reserve
  • QB Nick Mullens to injured reserve
  • WR Trishton Jackson signed from practice squad to active roster
  • WR N'Keal Harry signed from practice squad to active roster
  • Opened RB/KR Kene Nwangwu's practice window to return from IR
  • Released QB Tanner Morgan from the practice squad (Tuesday)
  • Signed QB Sean Mannion to the practice squad
  • Signed TE Troy Fumagalli to the practice squad
  • Signed WR/ST Dan Chisena to the practice squad

Jefferson, as reported early Tuesday morning, lands on IR with a hamstring injury, meaning he'll miss at least the next four games — and maybe more.

Jackson and Harry have been signed to the active roster to provide more depth at receiver. Those two are next in line beyond Jordan Addison, K.J. Osborn, and Brandon Powell.

Mullens also lands on IR with a lower-back issue. Rookie Jaren Hall is still on the roster and likely becomes the new backup quarterback, but old friend Sean Mannion is back in the building as well. He was the team's backup from 2019-21 before being released in final roster cuts prior to last season.

Nwangwu has been designated to return from IR, meaning he now has 21 days to be activated. He'll be back at practice this week.

Also joining the practice squad — essentially taking the spots of Jackson and Harry — are Fumagalli and Chisena.

Fumagalli, 28, is a former Wisconsin tight end who was a fifth-round pick in 2018 and has had stops with the Broncos, Texans, Patriots, and 49ers. He has 14 career receptions and two touchdowns, all coming in Denver in 2019 and '20. He's fifth on the depth chart behind T.J. Hockenson, Josh Oliver, Johnny Mundt, and Nick Muse.

Chisena is another former Vikings player making his return to Minnesota. He was signed as an undrafted free agent out of Penn State in 2020 and made the active roster as a rookie. Chisena spent the next three seasons with the Vikings and was with the Steelers this offseason. He's a lightning-fast gunner who is exclusively a special teams player.
