In my initial breakdown of the Vikings' 53-man roster, I said that I would not be surprised to see the team sign a wide receiver off of waivers in the coming days. We didn't have to wait long at all for that to happen, as the Vikings have signed former Washington Redskins wideout Josh Doctson, per Adam Schefter.

Doctson was selected in the first round of the 2016 Draft out of TCU, one spot ahead of Laquon Treadwell. While both Doctson and Treadwell, who the Vikings recently waived, have had very disappointing careers over their first three seasons, there are reasons to believe Doctson offers more upside. He has posted consecutive seasons of 500 receiving yards, while Treadwell's career total is just above 500.

Doctson also offers more speed and leaping ability than Treadwell. He will be reunited with Kirk Cousins, who was his quarterback in 2016 and 2017 in Washington. Doctson will need to improve significantly to be anything more than a minor contributor for the Vikings' offense, but this move represents an upgrade over Treadwell at the very least.
