The Vikings have agreed to terms with former Packers defensive lineman Dean Lowry, the team announced on Friday. It's a two-year, $8.5 million deal, according to multiple reports.

Lowry has been a productive player up front for the Packers since being drafted in the fourth round out of Northwestern in 2016. He appeared in 111 games across seven seasons in Green Bay, starting 80 of them. During that time, he recorded 15.5 sacks, 23 total TFL, 16 passes defended, and an interception. Prior to missing a bit of time last season, Lowry typically played around 600-700 snaps per season and earned decent Pro Football Focus grades in both run defense and pass rush.

2021 was Lowry's most productive season as a pass rusher. He recorded career bests in pressures (42) and sacks (5.0) that year.

Lowry, who turns 29 this year, has good size at 6'6", 296 pounds. He's a versatile player who can line up at tackle or end — and on either side of the line. In Brian Flores' 3-4 scheme, he'll be a defensive end who occupies blocks in run defense and adds some value as a pass rusher.

The Vikings needed some additional depth and versatility up front after losing Dalvin Tomlinson in free agency. They also signed former Saints first-round pick Marcus Davenport this week, and now they've continued to add to their front by adding Lowry at a reasonable cost. Davenport is more of an outside linebacker and pass rusher, while Lowry is a bigger defensive lineman whose focus will be more on run defense.
