Vikings vs. Chiefs Live Score Updates: NFL Regular Season Week 5

In this story:
We're all set for football at U.S. Bank Stadium on Sunday afternoon, with the defending champion Kansas City Chiefs (3-1) in the house to take on a Minnesota Vikings (1-3) team looking for its first home win of the season.
The Vikings got their first win of the campaign last weekend against the hapless Panthers, but they didn't exactly do it in convincing fashion. Now comes a much, much tougher test against Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, Chris Jones, and the Chiefs.
This is a Chiefs team that hasn't looked super dominant so far in 2023, losing to the Lions and narrowly defeating the Jaguars and Jets, sandwiched around a blowout win over the Bears. But when Mahomes and Andy Reid and company are involved, it's never going to be easy. They're 78-20 (including playoffs) in games started by Mahomes since he took over in 2018.
This should be a fun one. There are a ton of Chiefs fans in the building for Kansas City's first-ever game at this stadium. There are also tons of Vikings fans, of course, so the back-and-forth of the crowd will be entertaining.
The Vikings don't have any major players out with injury today. Backup QB Nick Mullens is inactive, so rookie Jaren Hall will serve as Kirk Cousins' backup. For the Chiefs, starting inside linebacker Nick Bolton is out due to injury.
If the Vikings can hold onto the football and prevent Jones from doing too much damage, they should be able to put up some points on the Chiefs. But will Brian Flores' defense be able to limit Mahomes and the KC offense? That's the big question.

Final Score: Chiefs 27, Vikings 20
Live Updates
Fourth Quarter
0:00 — Cousins was sacked before he could attempt a Hail Mary. The Vikings are 1-4.
Chiefs 27, Vikings 20
12:11 — The Vikings needed that touchdown. Kirk Cousins threw a screen to Alexander Mattison, who got into the end zone from nine yards out. The key play was a fourth-down conversion from Cousins to Jordan Addison, one play earlier. The Vikings have life, but they need a stop.
Third Quarter
0:00 — At the end of the third quarter, the Vikings are driving. They've got a first down at the Chiefs' 33. They need a touchdown here to have a chance.
Chiefs 27, Vikings 13
2:45 — The Chiefs are glad Kelce was able to return to the game, because the Mahomes to Kelce connection was at full force on that drive. They connected five times on that drive, including twice on third down. The last catch for Kelce resulted in a touchdown. The Vikings are fully on the ropes now, down 27-13.
7:35 — The Vikings are down to one timeout for the remainder of the game. They had to burn one on a third down on offense, then lost another when Kevin O’Connell challenged the ruling of a completed catch by Travis Kelce (who is back in the game with a taped-up ankle).
Chiefs 20, Vikings 13
10:10 — The Chiefs open the second half with a 75-yard touchdown drive that took fewer than five minutes. Patrick Mahomes hit Justin Watson for a 33-yard gain on 3rd and 18 early in the drive — which arguably should've been knocked down or picked off by safety Camryn Bynum. He then hit Rashee Rice on third and goal for a touchdown.
Second Quarter
Vikings 13, Chiefs 13
0:00 — Harrison Butker's second field goal knots this one at the break. Travis Kelce might have suffered a serious non-contact injury, which would be devastating for the Chiefs.
Vikings 13, Chiefs 10
1:39 — That's a big-time touchdown drive by the Vikings. Kirk Cousins hit Jordan Addison on a crossing route in the back of the end zone for the rookie's third TD catch in five games. He had a 15-yard grab on third down earlier in the series. The Vikings extended the drive with a fake punt on 4th and 2 from near midfield, which was gutsy.
7:03 — The Vikings get a much-needed stop, forcing a three-and-out. They'll take over with good field position after the Chiefs' sixth penalty of the half.
Chiefs 10, Vikings 6
8:02 — The Vikings settle for another field goal after Kirk Cousins and K.J. Osborn couldn't connect on third down in the red zone. Chris Jones drew a Brian O'Neill holding call earlier in the series.
Chiefs 10, Vikings 3
12:46 — Hey, the Vikings got a stop. Mahomes escaped pressure on third down, but missed Marquez Valdes-Scantling in the end zone. The Chiefs had been 4 for 4 on third down before that incompletion. Harrison Butker restores the seven-point lead.
First Quarter
Chiefs 7, Vikings 3
4:02 — The Vikings get on the board, but they had to settle for three points after Kirk Cousins was sacked by a free runner on first down. Greg Joseph hit from 40 yards out. Can the defense get a stop?
Chiefs 7, Vikings 0
10:00 — The Chiefs capitalized on their excellent starting field position and scored a touchdown on a short plunge by Isiah Pacheco. The Vikings are already trailing.
14:50 — It's comical at this point. The Vikings just lost a fumble on the very first play of the game. Josh Oliver caught a screen pass and ran for a first down before losing the football. Unreal.
