In this story:

The Vikings are waiving wide receiver Jalen Reagor, according to Adam Schefter. There were reports on Tuesday that the team was fielding trade calls on Reagor, but it seems that nothing materialized on that front. Waiving the former first-rounder brings the Vikings down to a more typical number of five wide receivers on their roster and creates an open spot for new running back Myles Gaskin.

Reagor was a bit of a surprise on the Vikings' initial 53-man roster because his role as an undersized depth receiver, gadget offensive player, and punt returner was all seemingly made redundant by offseason acqusition Brandon Powell. Powell was the more consistently impressive player throughout training camp and accordingly did not play in the final preseason game, unlike Reagor.

Reagor has a fully-guaranteed $2.419 million salary this season in the fourth year of his rookie contract, which would transfer to another team if he is claimed on waivers. There is also offset language on his current deal that will help the Vikings recoup some of that amount if he goes unclaimed on waivers but eventually signs with a new team this year. Given that Reagor had a solid preseason — 8 catches for 93 yards — and is still just 24 years old, he'll certainly get another opportunity to latch on somewhere.

Infamously taken by the Eagles one pick before the Vikings drafted Justin Jefferson, Reagor managed just a 64-695-3 receiving line in two seasons with Philadelphia, plus one touchdown as a punt returner. He was traded to the Vikings a year ago for a seventh-rounder and a conditional fifth-rounder in 2024 that could've (but won't) turned into a fourth if he had met certain statistical benchmarks.

With the Vikings in 2022, Reagor had a mediocre season returning punts and only earned 12 touches on offense, scoring one touchdown.
