Joe Paterno Fired As Penn State Head Coach

The Penn State University Board of Trustees announced Wednesday that Joe Paterno has been fired as head coach of the school's football team. The announcement came during a late night press conference.

Paterno had coached at Penn State in some capacity for the past 61 years. He announced earlier today that he would retire at season's end, but the board voted that he would be removed immediately.

The board also announced that Graham Spanier has also been fired.
