Report: Ryan Doumit Agrees To One-Year Deal With Minnesota Twins

Catcher Ryan Doumit has agreed to a one-year, $3 million deal with the Minnesota Twins, according to a tweet from ESPN’s Jerry Crasnick. The deal is still pending Doumit passing a physical.

Doumit, 30, was one of the best catchers on the market this offseason. While he played in just 77 games for the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2011, he hit .303/.353/.477 with eight home runs and 30 RBI in 218 at bats. The switch hitter reportedly turned down a one-year $3 million offer from the Los Angeles Dodgers earlier this month.

Doumit’s best season came in 2008 when in 116 games he hit .318/.357/.501 with 15 home runs and 69 RBIs. Despite his promising numbers, injuries have forced the former second round pick to miss substantial time throughout his career. Just twice in seven years has he played in more than 100 games in a season, and he has never played in more than 124 in any single campaign.
