Jose Lopez Signs Minor League Contract With Cleveland Indians

The Cleveland Indians have signed former All-Star infielder Jose Lopez to a minor league contract, according to MLB Trade Rumors.

Lopez, 27, hit just .216/.245/.372 with eight home runs and 21 RBI in 82 games between Florida and Colorado this season. Once exclusively a middle infielder, Lopez played second base, third base, first base, and designated hitter at various points last season.

In 2006 Lopez was named to the American League All-Star team as a member of the Seattle Mariners. Just 22 at the time, Lopez finished that season .282/.319/.405 with 10 home runs and 79 RBI. Over the course of his MLB career he has posted a 162 game average of .263/.294/.398 with 15 home runs and 77 RBI.
