The Asian American Journalists Association has called for columnist Jason Whitlock to apologize after the writer tweeted a racially insensitive comment about New York Knicks guard Jeremy Lin. The association released the statement Saturday night on Facebook.

In the statement, the association called for the writer to apologize for his failed "attempt at humor."

"The offensive tweet debased one of sports’ feel-good moments, not just among Asian Americans but for so many others who are part of your audience," the statement read in part.
