Athletics' Scott Sizemore Will Miss Entire Season With Torn ACL

Tuesday February 28th, 2012

Oakland Athletics third baseman Scott Sizemore will miss the entire 2012 season with a torn ACL in his left knee, according to the Associated Press.

Sizemore was injured Saturday in the A's first full-squad workout at their spring training facility in Phoenix. An MRI confirmed the torn ligament, the team announced today; Sizemore will be re-evaluated in two weeks to see when a date for surgery can be set.

Sizemore, 27, hit .249 with 11 home runs and 52 RBIs in 93 games with the A's last season. He arrived in Oakland via a trade with the Detroit Tigers in May. A's manager Bob Melvin had expected Sizemore to be in his Opening Day lineup. Eric Sogard, Adam Rosales, Josh Donaldson and Wes Timmons are now among the potential replacements for Sizemore at third base.
