Report: SMU Hires Larry Brown As Head Coach

Larry Brown has agreed to become the next head men's basketball coach of Southern Methodist University, according to ESPN.com.

Brown, 71, has not coached since 2010, when he resigned from the NBA’s Charlotte Bobcats. He is the only coach in history to win both an NBA Championship and an NCAA Championship; he won an NCAA Championship with Kansas is 1988 and an NBA Championship with the Detroit Pistons in 2004.

Brown has a 1098-904 (.548) record as an NBA head coach and a 177-61 record as a college head coach. According to ESPN, the only issue is who Brown will hire as assistants; Tim Jankovich of Illinois State has been offered the job but may not accept and former Illinois assistant Jerrance Howard and Kentucky assistant Rod Strickland are both expected to join Brown.
