Daisuke Matsuzaka will start on Saturday for the Red Sox in a game against the Washington D.C. Nationals, according to a tweet from Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe.
Matsuzaka last pitched May 2011 and then a month later underwent "Thomas John" surgery, a procedure that replaces a ligament in the elbow with a tendon from another part of the body.
As part of his rehab assignment, the 31-year-old spent Tuesday pitching 1 1/3 innings and allowed one run for the Triple-A Pawtucket team.
