On the same day the Dallas Cowboys honored the late Jerry Brown, defensive tackle Josh Brent — the driver in the fatal one-car accident that killed Brown — was present on the team's sidelines.
Brent drove the car in the accident last weekend and is facing intoxication manslaughter charges. He was released from jail after posting $500,000 bond. The Dallas Morning News reported earlier this week that Brown's blood alcohol level was 0.18 at the time of the crash — more than twice the legal limit of 0.08 in Texas.
Brent attended Brown's funeral earlier in the week, and Brown's mother, Stacey Jackson, has forgiven Brent.
"[Brent] just knew that I was going to blame him or go off on him or hit him – but no,” Jackson said at Brown's wake. “Jerry would frown down on me if I did that, because that’s not the way I raised him.”
The Cowboys honored Brent on Sunday by having a moment of silence before their game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. They also wore decals on their helmets.
But the Cowboys' decision to allow Brent on their sideline drew some criticism, most notably from CBS analyst Boomer Esiason:
