The Los Angeles Galaxy have signed Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Carlo Cudicini on a free transfer, the team announced Monday afternoon. Specific details of Cudicini's contract with the Galaxy have not been revealed, but multiple reports indicate the goalkeeper will count as a "Deisgnated Player" for MLS salary cap purposes.

The move means that in all likelihood the Galaxy will have a new starting goalkeeper. Cudicini has played in the English Premier League for 10 season, though most of his recent seasons have been spent on the bench. Cudicini was Chelsea's starter between the sticks from his arrival in 2001 until current starter Peter Cech was signed in 2004. Since then Cudicini has mainly been a backup - for several more years at Chelsea, then the past three seasons at Tottenham.
