The starting quarterback for Winston-Salem State University was beaten up by five Virginia State football players during a Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association football banquet Friday afternoon, reports John Dell of the Winston-Salem Journal.

According to report, Winston-Salem State quarterback Rudy Johnson was beaten in a bathroom at an event associated with the CIAA championship game between WSSU and Virginia State.

The game scheduled between Virginia State and Winston Salem State for the CIAA championship has been canceled and one person has been arrested in the incident.

“We don’t know a lot of what happened but we do know our starting quarterback, Rudy Johnson, was beaten up,” said Chancellor Donald Reaves of WSSU, “and he didn’t beat himself up.”
