Sports Illustrated's 60th Anniversary

For our 60th birthday, we're pulling out all the stops to celebrate the history of Sports Illustrated. Follow along with all our content below, including a vote for the most iconic cover of all time, a photomosaic cover celebrating readers and more.

. 60 Years, 60 Iconic Stories

We dug up 60 of the best stories in the magazine's history. Click here to read them and check out Q&As with the featured writers.

. Vote: Most Iconic Cover Ever?

We took a spin through the Vault to gather some of the most iconic covers in Sports Illustrated's history into one bracket challenge. It's up to you to decide which covers advance and which are eliminated. Vote now!

. SI's Most Regrettable Covers

Sports Illustrated has produced 3,069 covers over the last 60 years. We are quite proud of many of them. This list contains the ones we aren't celebrating quite so much.

. Find Yourself On The Cover

We asked readers to submit photos of themselves playing a sport, being a fan or wearing their favorite team’s gear. The photos from thousands of people who responded were used in a photomosaic recreation of SI’s first cover from Aug. 16, 1954, which featured Milwaukee Braves third baseman Eddie Mathews, New York Giants catcher Wes Westrum and umpire Augie Donatelli.

. Oops! Alleged dopers on SI's covers

If only we knew then what we know now...

Throughout the so-called Steroid Era, Sports Illustrated celebrated the successes of many of baseball's top players. Then, the revelations of just how they achieved their success became public. We know we can't go back on the many covers we dedicated to those athletes, but at least we can come clean now.

. When preseason predictions go wrong

Spoiler alert: often

From calling the NCAA bracket to picking champions in the preseason, we've fallen short on predictions more than we'd like to admit. Way more. If you're wondering just how bad our win percentage is, take a look at the infographics here.
