Six-time U.S. Open champion Serena Williams defeated Sloane Stephens on Saturday to advance to the second week at the U.S. Open.

The highly anticipated match marked the first time the two have played each other since 2015.

Stephens took control early winning the first set 6-2 as the 38-year old Williams appeared a bit sluggish.

But the 23-time Grand Slam Winner found her rhythm in the second set and capitalized off some Stephen’s errors to win 6-2

Williams confidence continued to grow in the 3rd set. Stephens's backhand error on game point allowed Williams to take a 4–1 lead. But Stephens wouldn't back down just yet and held for 2–4. However, she couldn't keep up with Williams's intensity by the end of the set.

Williams will now advance to 4th round and face No. 15 Maria Sakkari on Monday.

Williams is seeking her 24th Grand Slam title this U.S Open.
