The 2022-23 college basketball season tips off on Monday and it will get off to an early start for Stanford as it hosts Pacific in a morning game at venerable Maples Pavilion. The Cardinal were 16-16 last season and missed the postseason for the fourth straight year. Coach Jerod Haase is entering his seventh season at Stanford and is 98-90 with a trip to the NIT in 2018 the only postseason appearance in that span. Leonard Perry starts his second season as the head coach of the Tigers, who were 8-22 last season and last appeared in a postseason tournament in 2014.

Pacific has a young group with three juniors and two sophomores projected as starters. Luke Advalovic is the Tigers' leading returning scorer, averaging 10 points a game last season.
The Cardinal added graduate transfer Michael Jones from Davidson, where he averaged 11.8 points per game, and brings back senior wing Spencer Jones, the top returning scorer at 12.0 points a night last season.
Stanford is 33-3 all-time against Pacific and has won the last 18 meetings, including an 89-80 victory at Maples Pavilion on Nov. 12, 2017, the last time they played. The Tigers haven't beaten the Cardinal since the 1933-34 season.
Stanford's last NCAA tournament appearance came in 2014 when they reached the Sweet 16 as a No. 10 seed. Pacific last appeared in the Big Dance in 2013 but reached the semifinals of the CIT in 2014.
