Yasiel Puig records force-out at second base from rightfield
Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Yasiel Puig recorded a rare force-out from the outfield during Saturday’s game against the Pittsburgh Pirates.
In the bottom of the first inning, with Pirates outfielder Gregory Polanco on first base, Starling Marte hit a soft line drive to rightfield. Polanco waited to see if the ball would drop in front of Puig for a hit. When it did, he broke for second base but slowed down as he approached the bag and did not slide.
Puig fielded the ball with his bare hand and made a strong throw to Jimmy Rollins at second. The ball beat Polanco to the bag by about a step.
Puig now has six outfield assists on the season and has not made an error in 61 games.
