Former Athletics All-Star Jed Lowrie Announces Retirement
Former Athletics All-Star Jed Lowrie announced his retirement from baseball on Thursday after 14 seasons with four different MLB teams.
“No one gets to play forever,” he said in the announcement. “And the time has come for me to close the chapter on my playing career.
“To the fans in Boston, Houston, New York and Oakland, it wasn’t always perfect, but I gave my all and I’m grateful for the opportunities to play for you. Thank you,” he continued. “Love never dies though, so I look forward to new opportunities in the game.”
Lowrie, 38, finishes his career with 1,185 hits, 121 home runs and a career batting average of .257. He played in Oakland the last two seasons—his second stint with the team. Before that, he had stops with the Red Sox, Astros and Mets.
His best year came in 2018 when he was made his lone All Star appearance and finished the year slashing .267/.353/.448 while tallying 23 home runs and 99 RBIs in the process.
