The Miami Heat paid tribute to late Marlins pitcher Jose Fernandez with special warmup shooting shirts before Tuesday’s preseason game against the Brooklyn Nets.
“This was a devastating blow to the South Florida community,” Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said weeks ago, following the death of Fernandez. “It was a blow to our organization. Our hearts and our prayers go out to his family, their families also to everybody with the Marlins. This will be a very difficult evening tonight so we’re thinking about them.”
Fernandez was killed in a boating accident on the morning of Sept. 25 along with his two friends. He was 24.
