Texans, OT Laremy Tunsil Agree to Massive Contract Extension, per Reports
The Texans and offensive tackle Laremy Tunsil have agreed to a record-breaking contract extension, according to multiple reports.
The deal is for three years and potentially worth $75 million with $60 million guaranteed, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network and Aaron Wilson of KPRC in Houston. The new pact will once again make Tunsil the NFL’s highest-paid offensive lineman.
The previous richest contract for an offensive lineman was the six-year, $138.06 million deal reached in 2021 between the 49ers and Trent Williams. That agreement had an average annual value of $23.01 million per season. Tunsil, now boasting a deal with an average annual value of $25 million, regains his status atop the salary hierarchy of the league’s offensive linemen.
Tunsil, 28, has earned Pro Bowl recognition in three of the past four seasons, with the only exception being 2021, when he was limited to five games due to injury. He bounced back in ’22 by starting all 17 games for Houston.
Tunsil’s previous contract, completed in the 2022 season, paid him $66 million over three seasons. Late in the ’22 season, Tunsil spoke about his desire to reclaim the title of the highest-paid offensive tackle. Now, he’s regained that status with a massive new deal heading into his eighth pro season.
