It’s good news, then, that Los Santos have emerged as victors on each of the last four occasions in which they’ve hosted Godoy Cruz at the Estadio Pedro Bidegain in Buenos Aires.
Not only that, but the capital club has managed to prevent Mendoza-based Godoy Cruz from scoring in the last three of those, each of which have ended with a 1-0 scoreline in favor of the host.
In fact, the past five straight meetings between these teams have been far from blockbusters, comprising a combined four goals and no matchups where both teams have managed to find the back of the net.
While Godoy Cruz has been the most efficient team in this year’s Copa de la Liga in terms of accruing points, it’s a defense-first approach that’s put Sergio Gomez’s side in the frame to finish first in Zone B, most recently beating Tigre 1-0 at home:
Having kept clean sheets in eight of their 10 outings thus far, the club has conceded just three goals, which is fewer than half of any other team’s tally in the tournament to date.
That doesn’t bode well for a San Lorenzo team that’s found the goals anything but free-flowing so far this year, though Paraguayan Adam Bareiro has outscored any player on Godoy Cruz’s books so far.
