The Los Angeles Dodgers (1-0) won their season opener on Wednesday and on Thursday look to complete a sweep of MLB's two-game opening series against the San Diego Padres (0-1) at the Gocheok Sky Dome in Seoul, South Korea. The series marks MLB's first games in South Korea, played a bit more than a week ahead of Opening Day for the rest of baseball on March 28. Both teams will play additional exhibition games upon returning to the U.S., with the Padres hosting the Seattle Mariners for two games at Petco Park in San Diego and Los Angeles playing its annual three-game series against the Los Angeles Angels with two games at Dodger Stadium and a third at Angel Stadium in Anaheim.

The Dodgers trailed 2-1 after seven innings before a four-run eighth inning propelled them to a 5-2 victory on Wednesday. Gavin Lux hit an apparent double play ball after Los Angeles tied the game, but the ball ripped through the glove of first baseman Jake Cronenworth, opening the floodgates for three more runs. Shohei Ohtani was 2-for-5 in his Dodger debut with an RBI in the eighth, while Mookie Betts had two hits and an RBI as well.

San Diego managed just four singles against five L.A. pitchers, with Xander Bogaerts driving in a run with a third inning knock. Starters Tyler Glasnow of the Dodgers and Yu Darvish of the Padres didn't figure in the decision, with both exiting before hitting the 80-pitch mark.

Thursday marks the anticipated MLB debut of Japanese right-hander Yoshinobu Yamamoto, who signed to a 12-year, $325 million contract in the offseason. He was 17-6 with a 1.16 ERA and 0.860 WHIP in 164 innings for the Orix Buffaloes last season. San Diego goes with right-hander Joe Musgrove, who was 10-3 in 17 starts with a 3.05 ERA and 1.140 WHIP in 97.1 innings in 2023.
