Columbia (23-6) shared the Ivy League regular season title before losing to top-seeded Princeton in the tournament championship game on Saturday. But the Lions received an at-large bid and will play in its first-ever NCAA tournament game on Wednesday night when they face Vanderbilt (22-9) in a First Four contest at Cassell Coliseum in Blacksburg, Virginia. The Commodores got an at-large bid after finishing sixth in the Southeastern Conference and losing in the second round of the conference tourney on March 7. It is Vandy's 28th NCAA tournament bid but its first since 2014. The program played in its lone Final Four in 1993 and has been to the Elite Eight five times.

Columbia, which hosted the Ivy League tournament, lost 75-58 to Princeton after the teams split two regular season meetings. Abbey Hsu led the offense with 20 points, while Kitty Henderson and Cecelia Collins each had 13. Hsu averages 20.6 points and 7.4 rebounds and Collins gets 13.7 points per game.
The Commodores trailed by as much as 15 in the second half and their comeback bid fell short against 11th seeded Florida in a 62-59 loss on March 7. Iyana Moore scored 20 points while Khamil Pierre finished with 16 points and 15 rebounds. Moore gets 13.9 points per game and Sacha Washington averages 12.1 points and 7.9 boards.
The teams have met twice before with Vanderbilt winning both times, including a 74-63 win at Columbia on Nov. 13, 2022. The winner advances to face No. 5 seed Baylor in Blacksburg on Friday night.
