Samford, on the other hand, has never won the SoCon since joining in 2008. Despite their vast historical differences, Samford has been the SoCon’s best team all year, while ETSU is a true pre-NCAA Tournament Cinderella, as the No. 7 seed in a 10-team league. ETSU is now 4-0 in March, elevating their record to 19-15, and will try to win four games in four days tonight after knocking out No. 10 VMI, No. 2 UNC Greensboro and No. 3 Chattanooga.
Samford defeated No. 8 Mercer and last year’s tournament champion, No. 6 Furman, each of the last two days. Despite an impressive 28-5 overall record, helped in part by a 17-game winning streak earlier this year, Samford no doubt needs tonight’s automatic bid to make the NCAA Tournament.
