Notre Dame Recruiting Roundup - December 17th

Here is the latest news from this past week from Notre Dame football recruiting

With National Signing Day coming up this week, and the transfer portal in full effect, the Notre Dame recruiting department has been busy. Let’s revisit every piece of news from this week.

We saw transfer portal commitments, new offers extended, in-home visits, and continued progress of the 2025 recruiting class. The recruiting world never slows down, especially for the Irish program.

TRANSFER PORTAL CHAOS

Notre Dame has continued to make a big impact in the transfer portal so far this offseason, which has been quite the sight to see. One of the big early victories was landing former FIU wide receiver Kris Mitchell. The speedster talked to Irish Breakdown about his decision, and what made the Irish the perfect fit for him.

This past week, the momentum in the portal continued. Notre Dame was able to land two former Duke standouts in quarterback Riley Leonard and pass rusher RJ Oben. I touched base with former Irish defensive tackle Ja’Mion Franklin, who has been teammates with both Leonard and Oben for the last three seasons.

According to Franklin, Notre Dame is getting the ultimate playmaker in Leonard. Combine that with his leadership skills and the Irish have a great addition under center.

Oben, on the other hand, also brings tremendous upside to the table. He is the type of versatile pass rusher that every team needs more of. Franklin also gave Oben some high marks as a person and teammate. He sees a tremendous fit with the Irish.

LATEST RECRUITING NEWS

On the recruiting side, Notre Dame is preparing for National Signing Day on Wednesday. That means the Irish staff has been traveling to see their 2024 commits in-home for the last time before they are official members of the class.

Some of the recent visits included linebacker Bodie Kahoun, defensive tackle Sean Sevillano, cornerback Karson Hobbs, and long snapper Joseph Vinci among others.

One of the most anticipated 2024 commits set to sign in Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco linebacker Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa, who is fresh off a fantastic high school career with the Braves. I broke down the film for Viliamu-Asa, citing what Notre Dame fans should be expecting and excited for.

The Irish staff also has their eyes firmly set on the 2025 recruiting class, with hopes of putting together an outstanding group. One of their biggest targets on the board is Buford (Ga.) High School cornerback Devin Williams, who is an elite cover man. Williams updated his recruitment and relationship with Notre Dame.

There is a desire for the Irish to sign a second tight end in the 2025 class along with current commit James Flanigan. One interesting name on the board is Goodland (Kan.) High School star Linkon Cure. The 6-6, 220-pound athlete is one of the big risers at the position nationally. There is legitimate interest for him in Notre Dame if the communication begins to be more consistent.

It was also a busy week from the staff in terms of scholarship offers being extended. That includes an ultra-talented 2025 pass rusher in Darren Ikinnagbon and star 2026 signal caller Brady Hart, the latter of which spoke very highly of the Notre Dame program.
