Notre Dame Recruiting Roundup - May 14th

Another week, another important stretch of recruiting for the Notre Dame football program. Over the past week, the Irish staff received multiple commitments, continued their travels on the trail, finalized more official visitors for June and extended ten more scholarship offers to recruits in the 2024, 2025 and 2026 classes.

The commitments are what everyone will want to focus on. It all started on Friday when 2024 Omaha (Neb.) Westside linebacker Teddy Rezac opted for the Irish over offers from Nebraska, Missouri and Boston College among others. A late riser from a recruiting perspective, Notre Dame is banking on upside with the versatile defender.

That commitment shouldn’t have been much of a surprise for anyone who has monitored the Rezac recruitment, especially with how quickly things heated up after officially receiving the offer. His visit last weekend really sealed the deal.

On Saturday, the program once again received great news when former Rhode Island defensive back Antonio Carter II picked the Irish over offers from Florida, LSU, Ole Miss and others. The 6-1, 200-pounder is set to play safety for the Irish, provide immediate help and also still hold two years of eligibility.

That action was enough to keep a fan's attention. As we know, however, this Notre Dame coaching and recruiting staff never sleeps. Let’s take a look at some of the other news you may have missed.

LATEST RECRUITING NEWS

Several key 2024 Notre Dame targets finalized official visits for next month, including Virginia linebacker Bodie Kahoun. The 6-2, 220-pound defender has a couple other official visits scheduled at this time as well. Things have been trending incredibly well for the Irish and will be interesting to watch to see if he ends up taking all of those visits or not.

The safety position looks to gain a lot of clarity in June as well. Notre Dame is expecting visits from three key targets, including California standout Marquis Gallegos, Utah star Davis Andrews and New Jersey native Jaylen McClain. It has been a massive cycle for the safety position and that clarity is very much welcomed, especially with more question marks than answers right now.

After a tremendous visit during the Blue-Gold Game weekend, Pennsylvania pass rusher Mylachi Williams has also finalized his trip to South Bend. There is a fair argument that Williams may have the most upside of any defensive player on the board. This trip will be extremely interesting to monitor.

A player who continues to be high on Notre Dame is 2024 pass catcher Jason Robinson Jr., who included the Irish in his top ten schools on Friday. There is some question whether Notre Dame will take four wide receivers in the class. If they do, Robinson is the clear top target on the board right now.

There is no more important linebacker on the 2024 board than St. John Bosco star Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa. In a recent interview during a showcase at his school, the elite linebacker was asked about where things stand with Notre Dame, Ohio State and USC heading into official visits next month.

During last week’s Irish Breakdown Recruiting Hour, Notre Dame cornerback commit Karson Hobbs debuted his first segment of Karson’s Corner. During that installment, he went in depth on some of the other commits in the 2024 class for the Irish and provided some insight into what makes them special.

One of the players who was offered this week was 2025 Sugar Land (Texas) Fort Bend Christian Academy pass rusher Max Granville. During an interview, the talented defender went in depth on what the recent Irish offer meant to him.

Notre Dame also had a tremendous impact on 2025 Pearland (Texas) Shadow Creek defender Anthony Williams. He called the recent offer a “shock.”

During this past week, the Irish coaches spent a lot of time in California. That includes a stop at Orange Lutheran, which resulted in several offers being extended to some of their players. Two of those offers included 2025 tight end AJ Ia and 2026 offensive lineman Samuelu Utu. Both players gave insight into their recent offers from the Irish.

I also spent some time watching film on various important recruits in the 2024 class. That included Texas athlete Oliver Miles III, who Notre Dame is recruiting as a safety.

I also took a look at defensive line recruiting in 2024. While there have been a lot of question marks and some puzzling moments so far, we are starting to gain a lot more clarity on what the class will look like in the end.
