Caleb Williams on the Peaks and Valleys of Social Media as a Top Prospect
Caleb Williams is the top quarterback prospect in the 2021 class with scholarship offers from elite programs coast to coast. We're back for another week of our blog, Caleb Williams: All on the Line. I'm excited to be back. I wish everybody a Happy Mother's Day, all of the ladies. I hope everybody had an awesome Mother's Day. I hope everybody is staying safe, healthy and making sure you're washing your hands.
The blog's success has been tremendous. I'm very thankful for all the people that want to check in and see the raw experiences of my life and what I do each week. How I'm getting recruited, how I'm working out, my family, my boys and the recruiting process for me in recruiting other players to try come with me.
I'm very thankful for all the people that have jumped on the blog and have looked at it, viewed it each week. I'm very appreciative, all of the success of the blog has shown in the numbers. The numbers have been absolutely insane. Over Instagram and Twitter, from my top five to my top three, I have generated over 2 million impressions.
That's absolutely insane that 2 million people have looked at my page and looked at those posts. I never thought 2 million people would ever look at my page. That was pretty cool, to view the insights of my posts.
So this has happened to me before, not really at this scale, but I've had people put my Twitter profile picture as their profile picture. I've had people make pages with my name as their name or other things like that.
But I really haven't had people make a page, basically copy my user name. I think they used one more 'W' or something like that, so people wouldn't really notice. They copied my header, profile picture. Then they posted that I was committing today at 6.
I'm not [laughing]. So sorry to all of the fans and everybody for the miscommunication but I wasn't committing. It was a fake account.
It was something new, I haven't really experienced that. But all the fans got on the guy, did what they had to do to make sure that account doesn't do that again. So I thank all the fans and everybody who jumped in on that. But a full page about me, that was definitely something new. Copying user names, headers and then posting something and getting everybody all excited when it wasn't really me...that hasn't really happened to me.
Hopefully I can get verified. I've had a few pages about me but nothing like announcing that I was committing today. I'll probably get verified, which is pretty cool. Not everybody can get verified, so it's a pretty cool thing but we're trying to make sure something like this doesn't happen again. Someone making a false me.
The page blew up really fast, the Tweet blew up really fast. People were texting me, bothering me and I was so confused. My Twitter started firing at me with notifications and I was confused because I hadn't really posted anything. Just a few emojis for the guys that I know, that I've communicated with and am trying to get to come play with me.
My coach sent it to my dad and he sent it to me. My dad asked, 'did you post something that you're committing at 6 today?' I was like, what? I didn't know if he was mad or something but I was so confused. I was like, 'no. It's not me.' Then he showed the account with the fake me and one more 'W' in the user name.
It didn't bother me much. I just Tweeted something out to let people know it wasn't me and that I wasn't committing. If this is one of the things that comes with this position and getting to the next level and the next level after that -- shoot, I can take it. It's not too big of a deal for me.
It's kind of cool, too. Other than the fact that he put out a false Tweet, it's cool that people are making pages and parities about me and my stuff. Those accounts and things like that come with this title and position. I think I can deal with it but I'm not really focused on it that much.
As you know, I recently posted my top three. I posted mine in the morning and one of my good friends, Garrett (Nussmeier), committed to LSU later on the same day. I said it before I came out with a top five list and that hasn't changed.
I haven't wavered. The best place for me is the best place for me no matter who's there. It hasn't really bothered me that Garrett committed to LSU, they're still in the running. My top three is my top three, Oklahoma, LSU and Maryland. They're the schools I'm deciding from. For the guys committing to those places, I'm happy for them. It's a great opportunity.
Competition is what makes football so great. Football wouldn't be football without competition. You need that to make you better, I need it to make me better. I love competing, I have this competitive spirit in me and I just don't want to lose. That's why I'm recruiting all of the best players to come with me, come to the college I'm going to so we can compete at a high level and go win big.
The players that are already at these schools or just committed doesn't bother me.
Lastly, yes I'm still working hard but this is the last week of school for me so I've definitely been focused on school. This is my last week before junior year is finally over, going into the summer of senior year and preparing for this last ride -- this last dance. I'm excited and definitely working hard to make sure I finish off right so I can have a wonderful summer.
I'm still recruiting the guys. Still going hard on a bunch of the top guys in the nation, making sure they understand what's trying to be built. Defensive guys, offensive guys, I need you to be with me, I'll be with you and we're gonna win big.
