Official Super Bowl programs cause backup at Phoenix airport

Tuesday February 3rd, 2015

A hologram on the cover of the official Super Bowl XLIX program, a popular souvenir for those who attend the big game, added to the chaos on what was already a busy Monday at Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport.

The cover detail was setting off alarms when placed in checked luggage, which led to each bag containing a program having to be hand checked, according to The Wall Street Journal.

“It’s created total chaos for us, and this was already what they’re telling us is our busiest day ever” at this airport, said the US Airways employee, who requested anonymity because she didn’t have authorization to speak on the matter.

The airport tried to spread the word to customers as quickly as possible that all programs needed to be stored in carry on bags.

The nearly 300-page book features a recap of the 2014 season as well as analysis of both the Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots.
