Kentucky politician compares opponent to Christian Laettner

A hotly contested race for the Republican nomination in the Kentucky gubernatorial election has led to one candidate comparing his opponent to one of the state's most hated villains.

A hotly contested race for the Republican nomination in the Kentucky gubernatorial election has led to one candidate comparing his opponent to one of the state's most hated villains.

James Comer claims that Hal Heiner is paying people from his past to tell lies about him to the media. During a debate on a Kentucky sports radio station, Comer referred to Heiner as "the Christian Laettner of Kentucky politics," according to the Lexington Herald-Leader.

Laettner is reviled in the state for sinking a game-winning buzzer-beater for Duke against Kentucky in the 1992 Elite Eight, knocking out the Wildcats and sending the Blue Devils to the Final Four.

Laettner was alerted to the fact that his name had become a political slur in the Bluegrass State, and responded with a pretty good barb that will likely only make the people of Kentucky hate him more.
