Chanhassen boys hockey upsets Minnetonka in Section 2AA final

The Storm upset the defending Class 2A champ and top-ranked Skippers to reach the state tournament

The No. 4 Chanhassen Storm (23-5) defeated the No. 1 Minnetonka Skippers (25-1-2) 2-1 in the Class 2A, Section 2 championship on Thursday at Braemar Arena. 

The Skippers were the top-ranked team in the state and the defending Class 2A champion. It's Chanhassen's first time reaching the state tournament in school history.

Chanhassen's Andy Earl scored two goals in the first period. The first came on the power play with assists from Gavin Uhlenkamp and Owen Buesgens. 

The second was an even-strength goal with another assist from Buesgens.

Minnetonka cut the lead to one late in the third period. John Stout scored with an assist from Danny Klaers and Alex Lunski.

But Chanhassen goalie Kam Hendrickson held strong with 44 saves in the game. Minnetonka's Hunter Bauer finished with 23 saves. 

The Skippers went 0-for-3 on the power play.
