Look: Mater Dei vs. St. John Bosco preview — quarterbacks Elijah Brown, Caleb Sanchez are opposites, yet so much alike
The opposing quarterbacks for the biggest regular-season game annually in California — national No. 1 Mater Dei at No. 7 St. John Bosco on Friday — couldn't be more opposite.
And yet, they are very much the same.
Mater Dei's Elijah Brown will start for the seventh time in his career against the Braves and owns a 36-1 overall record overall as a fourth-year starter.
This will be Sanchez' first start against the Monarchs and as a first-year senior starter for the Braves. He's 6-1.
Brown, a calm, poised, proven product, is ranked the eighth best quarterback in the country and has a scholarship secured to Stanford. He stands almost 6 feet, 2 inches and weighs 200 pounds.

Sanchez, equally poised, has one offer — from Nevada — and is ranked the No. 127th best QB in the land. He's 6-3 and a strapping 230 pounds.
Both are seniors. Both are extremely soft-spoken and humble. Both sing the praises of their teammates and coaches.
Both are having monster senior seasons. They each wear No. 12.
Brown has completed 114 of 156 passes (73 percent) for 1,674 yards with 25 touchdowns and four interceptions.
Sanchez is 158 of 204 (77 percent), 1,856 yards, 17 touchdowns and four interceptions.

The two met with SBLive Sports reporter Myckena Guerrero last week and revealed a similar disposition, a strong influence from their fathers, a deep respect for their opponent and a deeper one for their own team's brotherhood.
Each gave revealing looks into their personalities, their college recruitments and Friday's game. See interviews with Guerrero at top of the page.
