Asa Newell, nation's No. 1 power forward, takes official visit to Gonzaga
Five-star power forward Asa Newell was in Spokane on Tuesday for an official visit to Gonzaga.
The 6-foot-9, 205-pound senior recruit is ranked as the nation's No. 9 overall prospect, Florida's No. 3 overall recruit in the class of 2024 and the nation's No. 1 power forward according to On3.
Halfway through his junior season at national powerhouse Montverde Academy (Florida), Newell was averaging 15.7 points, 2.3 blocks and five assists.
Newell has already officially visited Georgia and Indiana in addition to Gonzaga. Asa's older brother, Jaden Newell, plays for the Georgia Bulldogs' basketball program.

He also plans to take official visits in the upcoming months to Alabama (August 1-3), G-League Ignite (September 1-3) and Texas (September 8-10).
The highly touted power forward also holds offers from Florida, Baylor, Michigan, Kansas and many others.

According to On3, Indiana is the current favorite to land Asa Newell with a 27.8% chance while Georgia is in second place with a 18.4% chance.
Last month, Newell played for the United States at the FIBA U-19 World Cup where he averaged 7.7 points, 5.6 rebounds and 2.3 blocks per game.
