Detroit Tigers outfielder Cameron Maybin is expected to be out four to six weeks after suffering a hairline fracture in his left wrist, the team announced Thursday.

Maybin was injured when hit by a pitch during a spring training game. The Tigers open their season on the road against the Marlins on April 5, meaning they could be without Maybin if he takes the full period to recover.

Detroit acquired Maybin in a trade with the Atlanta Braves in November, shipping away left-handed pitchers Ian Krol and Gabe Speier in exchange.

He was drafted by Detroit in the first round of the 2005 draft, playing 24 games with the team after being called up in 2007.

Maybin has hit .251 with 42 home runs and 209 RBIs over nine seasons.
