Nobody came into the 2023 season expecting the Los Angeles Angels to be perfect by any means. In fact, I would say that majority of baseball fans and even some Halos fans were hoping things would be quite the opposite so Shohei Ohtani could be traded and allowed a new beginning.

But we've been breaking down these first two months of the season very closely and for all of the turmoil and adversity this squad has faced, they love playing with one another and have been able to string together some huge series wins. Their roster got younger and deeper than years prior but even though that brings new energy, they also lack experience that their competitors hold.

And that was on full display this past weekend against the Houston Astros where LA dropped three out of their four games and allowed five runs or more in each of their three losses. They have been on a mission to prepare for this weekend and prove that their name belongs at the top of the AL West along with the Astros and the Texas Rangers but failed to prove it when the time rolled around.

Even though this is only team manager Phil Nevin's first year in this position with the franchise, he has been working with the MLB for quite some times. The Houston Astros' longevity and dominance has been on full display for the baseball world to see.

Nevin did not hesitate to give the franchise their flowers and admit they hold a level of respect within the league that the Angels are trying to get too after they finally won a game on Sunday.

“Those guys have been places we haven’t, and it’s where we want to go,” Nevin said. “That’s a good team over there. It’s a nice to get a win on the day out of here.”
