This is definitely not the news that the Los Angeles Angels wanted to hear. Logan O'Hoppe is already out for quite some time with his shoulder injury and Anthony Rendon continues to miss games after being diagnosed with a groin strain about two weeks ago.

But now Matt Moore, who has been one of the Halos' most solid relievers, went down with an oblique injury amidst a Marlins series in which the Angels have already lost two straight games and will be heading to the IL immediately.

This news was first shared by Rhett Bollinger.

"Matt Moore is going on the IL with an oblique injury. Ben Joyce is coming up, Nevin said"

In 22 games with the Angels this season, Moore was pitching a 1.44 ERA with 21 strikeouts in 25 innings pitched. This is going to be a huge blow for their bullpen as Moore was already one of the more experienced guys in that rotation.

Nonetheless, Moore's focus does need to be on a smooth recovery now and the one bright side to this is that top RHP prospect Ben Joyce will now be making his big league debut as the Angels look to their minor league talent to fill in the gaps they need once again.

Joyce entered his second season of AA baseball this year and in 14 games, he posted a 4.60 ERA and 1.277 WHIP. However, the potential and tools are all there to be an elite pitcher and LA is hoping he makes the most of this opportunity.

Team manager Phil Nevin revealed that Joyce had been next up to be called up on his list and that he's been keeping an eye on his play for some time now.

“His last few outings have been really good,” Nevin said. “Had some consistency to his last few, which we like and we called up (Sam) Bachman (on Friday), Joyce was in that conversation as well.”
