Zach Davies Rock Solid in First Spring Start

In this story:
Zach Davies was solid in his first spring start. The 30-year-old fired two scoreless innings, allowing one hit, walked two, and struck out the final three hitters he faced. He threw 32 pitches, 21 for strikes.
The most noteworthy part to this start is Davies' velocity was up compared to last season, hitting 90-92 on both his fastballs. He also kept the White Sox hitters off balance by mixing in four different pitches almost equally.
The Diamondbacks' young hitters put some early pressure on, as Corbin Carroll doubled on the game's first pitch and scored two batters later. Alek Thomas, Pavin Smith, Geraldo Perdomo, and Gabriel Moreno also added hits in the first two innings, with exit velocities of at least 99 MPH on all of them.
They had a big opportunity to score in the second, loading the bases with one out, but Alek Thomas' fly ball was not deep enough and Moreno was gunned down by Luis Robert attempting to score. After the second, there wasn't much offense from the D-backs lineup, as the team only collected two hits in their final seven trips to the plate.
Second baseman Buddy Kennedy was 2-for-3 in this game. In three games this spring, the young infielder is 4-for-7 with a double, triple, and a walk. He was previously outrighted to Triple-A Reno in the off-season, so a big spring could either result in being on the Opening Day roster or one of the first callups from the minors.
Andrew Chafin came up in the third against the heart of the White Sox order. Chafin struggled to throw strikes, walking two and giving up a double to Robert that narrowly missed leaving the park, but managed to limit the damage to just one run by inducing an inning-ending double play.
Jeurys Familia pitched another scoreless inning despite some traffic on the bases. He gave up a one-out double to Hanser Alberto and hit Romy Gonzalez on an 0-2 count.
Tyler Gilbert pitched around two-out trouble in the fifth, but wasn't as lucky in the sixth when Seby Zavala teed off for a two-run homer.
Jesse Biddle recovered from a disaster outing on Saturday to pitch a scoreless seventh inning with a strikeout.
Carlos Vargas, the team's No. 20 prospect, surrendered a run in the eighth thanks to Billy Hamilton's speed. Hamilton doubled and stole third to start the inning and scored on a safety squeeze. The 23-year-old flamethrower reached 101 MPH in his outing.
Mitchell Stumpo pitched a clean ninth with a groundout, pop out, and fly out.
Torey Lovullo Pre-Game Updates
Yesterday's double violation might have been a result of Carson Kelly making the final out of the previous inning. Lovullo states that Kelly was not loafing in the dugout and was busting his butt to get his gear on and get behind the plate for the final warmup pitch with less than 30 seconds left. It's something the team will get a clarification on from both MLB and the umpires.
Drey Jameson is scheduled to pitch tomorrow against the Giants on three days rest He'll look to separate himself in the No. 5 starter competition after throwing two scoreless against Oakland on Saturday.
Outfielder Jorge Barrosa will be out four to six weeks with a strained right hamstring. Barrosa injured his hamstring on defense in Saturday's split squad game against the Rockies.
Lovullo says that the pitch clock has not been an issue for their pitchers so far this spring. On a follow-up question, he did mention they'll have to reconsider the process for warming up relievers in the bullpen as a result of the clock.
