After Shohei Ohtani Signing, LA Looking Like Prominent Landing Spot For Starting Pitcher via Trade

One report indicates that LA is in the thick of things for a SoCal native...

Now that Shohei Ohtani has publicly announced his decision to join the Los Angeles Dodgers, LA must now pivot to fill out other areas of need on its roster.

Of course, we're talking first and foremost about starting pitching depth. There's a level of volatility surrounding the group right now based on injuries and several other factors.

It would behoove the Dodgers to grab at least two starters via trade or the free-agent market. According to The Athletic's Fabian Ardaya, one target might be coming into view:

In a piece written for The Athletic, Ardaya reported this in correspondence to which player the Dodgers could be targeting in the quest for starting pitching help:

"Rays right-hander Tyler Glasnow has emerged as a prominent Dodgers trade target over the last week, according to multiple people familiar with the situation. Some sources suggested that talks could pick up now that the Dodgers have secured an agreement with Ohtani. No deal was seen as close as of Saturday night, but the Dodgers and Rays appear to be a logical fit."

Glasnow is under contract for one more year before hitting free agency. This surely appeals to the Dodgers from a flexibility standpoint. Either he works out and gives LA a big chance at making a deep postseason run, or they let him walk in free agency.

The 6'8" right-handed pitcher does check a lot of boxes for the ballclub. He's an exceptionally talented arm with plenty of postseason experience. Growing up less than an hour from Chavez Ravine, a homecoming could help Glasnow's stuff tick up even more.

Though somewhat injury-prone, Glasnow has lights-out skills that play up in a postseason setting. Assuming he's healthy, the thought of facing the Dodgers with a three-man group including Glasnow, Walker Buehler, and Bobby Miller certainly wouldn't be fun for the opposition.
