Dodgers: Mookie Betts Bulked Up, Added Good Weight in the Offseason

The veteran gave insight into some of the changes he has made to his training.

Mookie Betts has been taking advantage of this offseason to make improvements to his game in all facets. If this meant heading over to the Driveline training center,  that is what he set to do.

During spring training at Camelback Ranch, the veteran gave insight as to why exactly he was compelled to visit Driveline.

“My employer told me I need to go. That’s how I ended up going there.”

The outfielder benefitted from the experience and was able to make the necessary adjustments to make his game that much better.

“That I just need to gain some strength. Continue to play the game I’ve been playing. Just get a little stronger.”

To his point, Mookie weighed around 170 pounds last season and upped his weight to 178 pounds when last recorded on his first morning at Camelback Ranch. During his weight gain process, Mookie is learning that the smallest things can make the biggest difference.

“You just can’t skip the little snacks like I used to. Just got to continue to eat, eat, eat, gain a little weight, gain some strength. Hopefully that helps … We’ll see how it plays out once the season starts.”

His change in diet habits could also be tied to the fact that the 30-year-old is no longer vegan. Vegan or not, the outfielder remains the same dominant force on the field. As he consistently aims to improve his game, Mookie is expected to take on a big role this season in leading the Dodgers to victory.
