Dodgers News: AAA Slugger Got a Gift of Homer Thanks to the Opposing Outfielder

The prospect hit the most unconventional of homers.

Some say in baseball that you see something new every day in the sport.

Cliche, yes. But sometimes that phrase really does come to pass. Take what happened to Dodgers prospect Devin Mann this weekend as an example.

The versatile infielder and No. 30 prospect in the organization has shown pop in his bat, as he's hit 14 home runs in his first full season playing for the Triple-A Oklahoma City Dodgers.

But No. 14 came in the weirdest of ways for the 26-year-old.

Mann got a hold of one and hit it out to deep right center, where center fielder Bryce Johnson made an impressive leaping catch to send Mann back to the dugout empty handed.

Or so he thought.

When Johnson was reeling it in, he jumped and then lost the ball out of his glove and into the bullpen, leading to the oddest of homers you'll probably see. Next to, you know, Jose Canseco having a ball bounce off his head for a home run many years ago, but this one's a solid second place.

Here's Mann's home run, so you can see it in all its... glory.

It's a home run that Mann will more than happily add to his ledger, but this also brings up shades of the NFL's catch rules.

The regular season on the gridiron may not begin for a couple more months, but Devin Mann brought you somewhat of a preview of it on a baseball field.

This continues a productive season for Mann, as he's slashing .312/.405/.572 with those 14 HRs and 64 RBI.

He's been more than a quality bat in the OKC lineup, and he definitely doesn't need any help to show what he can do.

That doesn't mean though that a little assistance won't be appreciated when it's given, as it was for Mann this past weekend.
