Designated hitter and slugger J.D. Martinez returns to the lineup tonight after missing the last seven games with some lower body issues.

To get ready for his return, Martinez took advantage of yesterday's off day and took to a high school field between series to get some hacks in. LA Times scribe Eric Sondheimer spotted the All-Star at Loyola High School.

Off from his original timeline after being scratched before playing his former team in Arizona, Martinez recently received an epidural shot in an attempt to get back to the field as quickly as he can.

The former Red Sox star who conquered the Dodgers alongside current MVP frontrunner in Mookie Betts signed with LA this past offseason on a one-year prove it deal.

Cashing in on that bargain deal, it's been a bounce back season that has benefitted both Martinez and the front office that took a chance on his previous pedigree.

Among the leaders in both slugging percentage and home runs in the National League, Martinez's performance in the Dodger lineup was as consistent as can be.

Without Martinez in the lineup, Dave Roberts' choices at designated hitter have rotated between many names including David Peralta, Max Muncy and others in the past few weeks.

No revolving door at the position could hurt the team apparently as the Boys in Blue have built an eight game win streak and an extended division lead in the past few weeks.

Trailing just the Braves as the class of the NL, Martinez might have the luxury of taking all the time he needs to fully recover from his injury to be healthy for the playoffs.

Headlined by an improved starting rotation, star power at the top of the lineup and trade pickups that have panned out in a massive way, Los Angeles looks poised for another deep October run for the World Series soon enough.
