The MLB trade deadline is approaching, and there's sure to be a plethora of moves made between now and the time that window closes on August 1.

The Los Angeles Dodgers figure to be one of those teams active at the deadline, as they still have some holes to shore up in their starting rotation, bullpen and potentially in the infield/outfield.

LA already made their presence known by filling up one of those slots when they acquired versatile utility man Kiké Hernandez, reuniting the right-handed hitter with the club he was a part of for six seasons.

But the Dodgers will still likely be looking for another right-handed bat, and that may come in the form of St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Dylan Carlson.

Carlson's MLB career has been a bit of a rollercoaster, as he jumped onto the scene when he finished third in the NL Rookie of the Year voting in 2020.

His career has taken a downturn since then, however, and he's hitting .237/.338/.358 with five home runs and 24 RBI for the downtrodden Cardinals this season.

Despite that, the 24-year-old still has the potential to be a quality major leaguer, and it may just be worth it for the Dodgers to take a chance on the California native.

And Bleacher Report's Zachary D. Rymer laid out a trade package that could bring Carlson back to his home state.

He has the Dodgers acquiring Carlson in exchange for pitcher Gavin Stone, and here's some of what he had to say about it.

"With Jake Marisnick and Trayce Thompson on the injured list and Mookie Betts needed on the infield, the Dodgers have been running out an all left-handed-hitting outfield most nights. Offensively, its production leaves something to be desired. This is where Carlson could help, and a one-for-one swap for Stone technically works."

An asking price of Stone seems a little steep, as even though he's had a rough season, it seems much too early for the Dodgers to deal him.

A hypothetical deal of pitcher Michael Grove and Dodgers No. 10 Josue De Paula -- hitting .279/.379./383 for A-affiliate Rancho Cucamonga -- both seems more palatable on the Dodgers side of things, and may just be enough to get a deal across the finish line.

We'll see what the Dodgers do between now and the deadline, but them swinging a deal for a highly-touted outfielder that may simply need a fresh start could be a good play.
