Writer Ranks Dodgers as 2nd-Most Dangerous Offense in MLB

In this story:
The Los Angeles Dodgers were not off to their usual dominant start this 2023 season. Through 26 games, the team was a very average 13-13, and was extremely inconsistent.
However, in their last four games, they’re 4-0, and have outscored their opponents 27-10. Their most recent outburst was a 13-4 demolition of the Philadelphia Phillies on Monday night.
Before this four-game win streak began, Zachary D. Rymer of Bleacher Report wrote an article ranking the most dangerous offenses in baseball and put the Dodgers in second place. While I was ready to question his decision in putting them so high, maybe he was onto something. Here’s what he had to say:
“They may only be
second
in MLB in total extra-base hits, but they're running away with the
league lead
in getting doubles, triples or home runs on 48 percent of their hits. And underneath all that is a great big pile of
70 barrels
.
“Does it help to have MLB's leading home run hitter in Max Muncy? You bet it does, especially considering that he's hit five of his 11 homers with men on base. It's part of the reason the Dodgers
co-lead
the league in that department. To boot, the Dodgers offense is doing all this even as Mookie Betts, Freddie Freeman and J.D. Martinez remain relatively cool. Call it a hunch, but they
probably
won't remain that way forever.”
Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman have started to get going, and the Dodgers lineup is significantly better when Will Smith is in the three-hole. With Max Muncy and then J.D Martinez following, that’s as good a top five as it gets.
Then throw in James Outman in the six-hole — who’s been the best rookie in baseball this season — and you’re starting to build something. If Jason Heyward can continue to hit the ball well, David Peralta can continue to get going and one of Chris Taylor or Miguel Rojas can give average at-bats at the shortstop position, the Dodgers could have another dominant season on offense.
So while I was ready to ask Rymer what Dodger games he’s been watching, maybe he’s onto something. While this offense isn’t playing like the second-most dangerous in the MLB yet, they definitely can get there sooner rather than later.
