The Los Angeles Dodgers have claimed right-handed pitcher Grant Holman off waivers from the Arizona Diamondbacks, the team announced on Wednesday.

In order to make room on the 40-man roster, right-handed pitcher Gavin Stone was transferred to the 60-day injured list.

This is the second pitching addition the Dodgers made on Wednesday. Earlier in the day, the Dodgers made a trade, acquiring left-handed pitcher Jake Eder from the Washington Nationals for cash.

Who is Grant Holman?

Holman, 25, was designated for assignment by the Diamondbacks last week after being claimed by the team in February. He was set to open the season in Triple-A, but instead was DFA'd to create a spot on the 40-man roster.

The Dodgers decided to take a chance on Holman, a former sixth-round pick by the then-Oakland Athletics in 2021.

He debuted with the Athletics in 2024, sporting a 4.02 ERA across 18 relief appearances. Last year, across 22 appearances (two starts) with the Athletics, Holman had a 5.09 ERA with 17 strikeouts and nine walks in 23 innings of work.

Holman made one appearance this spring, pitching one shutout inning with one walk. He has options, so the Dodgers can stash him in Triple-A for now as they work on improving his game.

Holman has a three-pitch mix, mainly relying on a four-seam fastball and split finger while also mixing in a slider. The Dodgers likely saw something they liked in Holman to take a chance on the 25-year-old hurler.

Dodgers Transfer Gavin Stone to 60-Day Injured List

In the other part of the roster move, the Dodgers moved Stone to the 60-day IL, keeping him out until at least late May.

Stone was progressing in his throwing program after missing the entire 2025 season due to a shoulder injury, but suffered a setback in camp and was shut down.

Manager Dave Roberts provided a positive update on the right-hander on Tuesday, a day before he was transferred to the 60-day IL.

“The last I read a couple days ago, he’s had no symptoms,” Roberts said. “He’s pain-free. He is throwing. I don’t know the distance or when he’s going to be off the mound, though.”

Due to the setback, Stone was unlikely to be ready before the 60-day IL timeline expired. Thus, the Dodgers moved him there to create a 40-man roster spot for Holman.

“I would say he’s pre-spring training, or right at the beginning, because guys nowadays are a little further along than when Orel (Hershiser) was pitching,” Roberts said of Stone's current progression. “So, yeah, I would say it’s a little bit pre-spring training.”

With that timeline, Stone likely would have needed a couple months to get back. This move to the 60-day IL allows him to return in late May or June.

In Stone's last season in 2024, he made 25 starts for the Dodgers, going 11-5 with a 3.53 ERA across 140.1 innings of work.
