Dodgers News: Dave Roberts Says Clayton Kershaw Will Pitch on Monday or Potentially go on IL

In this story:
The Dodgers provided an update on starting pitcher Clayton Kershaw Sunday with the now All-Star’s status for his next start looking questionable. He was injured in his start earlier in the week as he left the game early and later shared that he was dealing with a shoulder issue.
The team said that Kershaw would either make his next scheduled start Monday against the Pittsburgh Pirates or he would head to the injured list. So it remains to be seen what they will do with Kershaw but with the All-Star break coming up, they may elect to allow the veteran more time to rest up and heal. Manager Dave Roberts gave an update on his starter.
"It's most likely either tomorrow or a potentially IL. And I think that, appreciating the schedule -- we've got the All-Star break coming up -- if there is a time for us to do this and give him a little reset, this would be it."

It could make some sense for the team to wait on his next start, especially given his injury history. Kershaw is in the midst of one of the better seasons of his career in a while, posting an ERA of 2.55 and leading the National League with 10 wins.
The ideal situation would be for Kershaw to make his next start but this could be a good way for the team to rest him and not lose his production for a long period of time. They need Kershaw to be healthy down the line if they want any hope of winning anything this season.
"Today I will say that there was progress. What that means for the start tomorrow I just don't want to say right now. There's some things that we have to think through -- if he starts. If we give him a couple extra days to kick the can. So, right now he hasn't thrown a bullpen, he hasn't spun a baseball, but there was progress. He felt better, so that's encouraging."

LA heads home for a six game home stand against the Pirates and then the Angels before the All-Star break starts.
