Dodgers News: Max Muncy Talks About His Future On the Infield

Over the offseason, there's been a lot of talk about who would be playing where in the Dodgers infield. For a lot of people, Max Muncy's stated preference for second base was a major factor.
We found out recently that LA is heading into spring training with a preliminary plan to have Muncy at third base and rookie Miguel Vargas at second. Over the weekend at FanFest at Dodger Stadium, Muncy told the media he actually likes third base more than he used to.
“I felt like I performed very well at third last year. Our internal metrics were very good for me, and I did start feeling comfortable just because I was playing it so much.
“Third base is the position I’ve always said you need to play it consistently to feel comfortable over there. When I was bouncing around and I’d play there once every week or two weeks, I felt like it was a very hard position to play. But when I started playing it every day, I got more comfortable and felt like it got a lot easier for me.
“It’s a position I’ve grown to like after playing it so much last year.”
This is kind of an encapsulation of why a team doesn't need to worry about personal preferences when deciding where to play someone. Muncy learned to like playing third base by ... playing third base. We've seen Muncy turn himself into an excellent defensive first baseman and a solid defensive second baseman in the past, so there's no doubt he'll handle third base just fine, especially playing there nearly every day.
