Dodgers News: Noah Syndergaard to Get One Last Shot to Prove Himself This Year

In this story:

It wasn’t even a month ago that Noah Syndergaard last took the mound for the Los Angeles Dodgers as he got lit up by the Cincinnati Reds. Yes, it seems like a very long time ago, but he could soon be returning to the team.

Syndergaard went on the injured list to deal with a blister issue, coincidentally after he saw his ERA balloon to 7.16 for the season. In reality, it was a way for the Dodgers to allow Syndergaard a break to hopefully wipe the slate clean from an awful start to his Dodger career.

However, since Syndergaard left the team, the need for consistent pitching has grown as the team has been forced to use different methods to field a rotation and bullpen. Injuries and inconsistencies have tortured the Dodgers this season, but they could be getting their $13 million man back soon.

Syndergaard is supposed to throw some simulated innings on Thursday and then go for a rehabilitation assignment in the minors. If all goes well, we could see Syndergaard back with the Dodgers. Manager Dave Roberts spoke on this:

“Then the ball is in his court, to be honest, to go out there and perform,” Roberts said. “The sample that we’ve seen up to this point – whether it be related solely to performance or a combo of injury, finger blister, layered onto performance – it hasn’t been where we need it to be. Noah understands that. So I think for us, the challenge is to go out there and be the pitcher we know he can be.”

Per The OC Register

It'll all depend on how Syndergaard performs whether or not he returns to the big leagues. The former All-Star pitcher is supposedly all healed and ready to go.

“I do think the stuff, what hitters are telling him, telling us is important,” Roberts said. “I’m sure he’s 100 percent healthy. Now he’s got to go out there and show that he can be that dependable major-league starter that we expect him to be.”

Per The OC Register

The Dodgers do need help with their pitching staff so if Syndergaard even looks somewhat promising, they may elect to give him another shot. This team can use all the help they can get at this point and maybe, just maybe he can provide the Dodgers with some positive level of production.
