How are Trea Turner, Cody Bellinger, Justin Turner and More Former Dodgers Doing This Season?

We are almost done with May, as the MLB season rapidly progresses. Now that the Lakers are officially out of the NBA playoffs, the focus in Los Angeles will shift back to the Dodgers.

So for all the fans that haven't yet been tuned into baseball, welcome! And for all the fans who have been tuned in, welcome back!

Either way, today felt like another good day to do a check-in on some former Dodger players in their new homes. This is now the fourth version on this series, so make sure to keep checking back in to get all the important updates.

But for now, here's your May 23rd update on some former Dodgers — and let's just say things haven't been kind to many of them over the last three weeks.

Batters:

Cody Bellinger, Chicago Cubs:

.271/.337/.493, 7 HR, 20 RBI, 9 2B, 1 3B, 14 BB, 31 K, 9 SB. Bellinger started coming back down to earth in Chicago. He didn't homer all month, and was hitting just .226 in May before being placed on the injured list after making an incredible catch in center field. Hopefully he gets well soon.

Justin Turner, Boston Red Sox:

.272/.362/.414, 5 HR, 18 RBI, 9 2B, 21 BB, 30 K. Contrary to Bellinger, Turner is getting hot in May — as he usually does — hitting .295 with a .508 slugging percentage this month.

Trea Turner, Philadelphia Phillies:

.256/.303/.390, 4 HR, 11 RBI, 10 2B, 2 3B, 13 BB, 56 K, 6 SB. Everyone is still trying to figure out what's wrong with Turner. He's continued to struggle after signing his massive 11-year, $300 million contract with the Phillies.

Joey Gallo, Minnesota Twins:

.205/.321/.563, 11 HR, 23 RBI, 5 2B, 1 3B, 18 BB, 45 K. Gallo is also coming back down to earth a little bit, but is still hitting tons of long balls as he tries to revitalize his career in Minnesota.

Edwin Rios, Chicago Cubs:

.095/.269/.286, 1 HR, 2 RBI, 1 2B, 5 BB, 10 K. Rios was recently recalled from Triple-A when Eric Hosmer was DFA'd. So not much going for him in Chicago.

Zach McKinstry, Detroit Tigers:

.275/.375/.412, 3 HR, 8 RBI, 5 2B, 16 BB, 21 K, 6 SB. McKinstry continues to get better and earn himself more playing time for Detroit. He has an on-base percentage of .439 in May.

Hanser Alberto, Chicago White Sox:

.219/.266/.397, 3 HR, 12 RBI, 4 2B, 4 BB, 12 K and 21.60 ERA in 1.2 IP. Alberto has been much better at the plate in May as he earns himself some more playing time in Chicago.

Pitchers:

Tyler Anderson, Los Angeles Angels:

42.2 IP, 5.27 ERA, 1.62 WHIP, 27 K. Things are still going bad for Anderson, who's suffered some pretty large regression to the mean after his All-Star season with the Dodgers last year.

Andrew Heaney, Texas Rangers:

48.0 IP, 4.13 ERA, 1.21 WHIP, 52 K. Heaney has been much better over his last three starts for the Rangers, allowing four earned runs across 18.2 innings.

Chris Martin, Boston Red Sox:

13.0 IP, 1.38 ERA, 1.00 WHIP, 9 K. Martin has continued to dominate for Boston and is yet to allow a run in May. The Dodgers are definitely missing him right now.

Craig Kimbrel, Philadelphia Phillies:

17.0 IP, 6.35 ERA, 1.41 WHIP, 29 K, 5 SV. The Dodgers are definitely not missing Kimbrel right now. He has a 10.50 ERA in seven appearances in May.

There’s everything you need to know about all of last year’s Dodgers who have moved onto new homes, almost two months into the 2023 season.
